Pretty much everything at this site is still under development,
and that includes our "Terms and Conditions". At some point,
we'll be forced to publish a long and possibly over-legalistic
document setting out all of the details about how you can interact
with this site. Until we get around to doing that, here are a few
things to keep in mind:
-
We want to share success with the artists who contribute to the site, and we have a
lot of ideas on how to do this. For the time being, we need to be very flexible in
how we develop the site. For you, the contributor, this has various implications -
most notably, that you must use the site on an "as is" basis, and that the site will
change in all sorts of ways over time.
-
You may choose whether or not you want to share your art with others on the site.
The unshared art contained in your personal project files is private and belongs to you.
Other users of the site may not view it or reuse it in any way. In addition, DoInk.com
will not display, license, sell, or in any other way use your unshared art.
Shared art may be viewed and reused by other users of the site. In the future,
we may give you a choice of copyright licensing options when you share your art, but for now,
our licensing model is as follows: any user of the site may reuse your shared art for non-commercial
purposes, with attribution, but with no additional compensation, within the "DoInk.com ecosystem".
Here's what we mean by that:
"any user of the site" - means anyone who comes to the site, whether they are a registered user or not.
"may reuse your shared art" - means that you agree to allow others to reuse your art, either by incorporating it into new art created with our software tools, or by embedding a reference to it in an external web page (more on that below).
"for non-commercial purposes" - means that others may not use your art (and you may not use others' art) for any purpose that involves making money. Examples of prohibited uses: banner ads, or business logos. Examples of permitted uses: animations embedded in your personal social networking page, or an animated birthday greeting for your mom.
"with attribution" - means that when your art is reused, you must be given proper credit for your work. For art displayed on DoInk.com's website, attribution is provided by listing all reused "contributing art", along with the artist's user name, on the displaying page. For art displayed on external web pages, attribution will be provided via a "credit roll". Please note that the "credit roll" feature is not yet deployed, so for the time being, art displayed on external web pages will contain a "DoInk.com" watermark, but will not explicitly credit contributing artists.
"with no additional compensation" - means that you're not going to be paid for your shared art.
"within the DoInk.com ecosystem" - means that your art will be stored on DoInk.com's servers and nowhere else. Other users may not download your art to their own computers or otherwise obtain a digital file containing your work. Your work may be embedded in external web sites (such as a personal blog or social networking site) using special HTML code, but even in this case, the digital copy of your art will still be stored on DoInk.com's servers.
-
Once you've shared something, you can't change it, you can't "unshare" it, and you can't
control how others reuse it. In the future, we may offer more flexibility in how you can
publish your work, but for now, don't put anything on the site that you don't want shared in this way.
-
We want to foster the creation, sharing, and reuse of art in a way that respects and rewards the intellectual
property rights of the artist. You must not put any material on the site that infringes on someone else's
copyright or that you don't have explicit permission to use. We will remove any material from the site that
doesn't conform to this policy.
-
This site is intended for viewing by a "general audience". We request that you keep this in mind when
you share art, and we reserve the right to remove any material that we think is offensive or suitable
only for mature viewers. We also request that you treat the other users of this site with respect, and
again, we reserve the right to remove commentary from the site that is dis-respectful or abusive to other artists.
